  • Kankara Abduction: Nigerians Should Embark on Fervent Prayer To Avoid Collateral Damage During Rescue Mission, Minister

Barely 48 hours after suspected bandits attacked Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, in Katsina State, and abducted a large number of the students from their dormitories, Minister of Defence, Salihu Magashi, affirmed on Sunday afternoon that security forces have sighted the victims adding that efforts were on to rescue them.

However, according to him, Nigerians should embark on fervent prayers in order to avoid what he described as “collateral damage,” during imminent rescue process.

The minister spoke at the Katsina Government House when he led a delegation of the nation’s security chiefs including the Inspector-General of Police on a sympathy visit to Governor Aminu Bello Masari.

According to the Minister, “today, with all the sorrow in our hearts, we have come here to sympathise with you over what happened last Friday night, disrupting the education of students and the confusion arising from it.

“So far, we have been briefed by the people on the ground, the Commissioner of Police and heads of other security agencies here.

“With their briefing, the task of rescuing the students is going to be very simple for us because within the next few hours, these students will be back.

“We have strategised and we believe we can do it without any collateral damage to the people of Katsina State.

“We will go the whole hog because we have the intelligence, the information and we are aware of there whereabouts, their movements and their method of operation and we are sure that this (rescue) task will be very easy for the Armed Forces and the police to accomplish.

“The only thing is that we need prayers so that there will be no collateral damage.

“That is the purpose of our visit, to sympathise with you and assure you that all hands are on deck within the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the police to ensure that this rescue mission is given the greatest priority.

“The Armed Forces and the police and the other security agencies must move very fast to ensure the students are rescued.

“We are doing this on the belief that if these people are allowed to rest for a moment that means we are also equally condoning this kind of activities.

“The conclusion within the security agencies is that it is high time we declared these people as terrorists.

“If we do that, probably people will now sit up because once you are a terrorist, you no longer have any right to your life.

In his response, Masari said that 333 students were still missing, believed to have been abducted by the hoodlums, out of the total of 839 students in the school.

Some of the others on the entourage of the Minister of Defence included, the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, Inspector-General of Police, DG,DSS, DG,NIA as well as heads of security agencies in Katsina State.

Bandits reportedly attacked the school at about 10.30 pm on Friday, hours after Buhari arrived his home state on a private visit.

Kankara is among the eight of the 34 local government areas in the state reported to be under the control of bandits, cattle rustlers and kidnappers.

As part of measures to check the menace of attacks by the hoodlums, the Nigerian Army in June 2020, raised a special squad, Operation Sahel Sanity, with headquarters at Faskari, a border community between Katsina and the equally troubled state of Zamfara.

  • Nine Police Officers Bag Jail Term For Torturing Fish Seller To Death

Nine Police Officers Bag Jail Term For Torturing Fish Seller To Death

An Egyptian court on Saturday sentenced nine policemen to three years in jail for torturing a fish seller to death, a judicial source said.

The sentencing is a relatively rare case of officers facing justice in a country where security services are often accused of abuse.

Magdy Makin, a 50-year-old Coptic Christian fish vendor, was detained by police at their station in November 2016.

Shortly afterwards, his family received his corpse, which bore signs of torture.

An autopsy report showed Makin suffered blood clots in his lungs due to intense pressure of someone standing on his back.

The case originally involved 10 policemen, but one was acquitted.

Nine others were tried on charges of torturing Makin to death, as well as forging his arrest report.

“The defendants can appeal the sentence,” the source added.

Rights groups have regularly accused Egyptian security services of practising abuses and torture, allegations the interior ministry has systematically denied.

Police brutality helped fuel the 2011 popular uprising that ousted longtime president Hosni Mubarak.

  • What Will Happen To Naira Among League of Currencies, Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has said the Nigerian currency, Naira will regain its strength among the league of currencies.

Adeboye disclosed this on Saturday during the RCCG annual Holy Ghost Congress held at its International Headquarters along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The renowned cleric asked God to intervene in Nigeria’s financial sector and change the hearts of policymakers who deliberately devalue the nation’s currency.

Adeboye recalled that there was a time, some decades ago, he needed N5,000, during the church’s inaugural convention when the naira was powerful and N5,000 was a lot of money.

Adeboye said, “During our first convention here at the Redemption Camp, I ran out of money. My wife came to me in the morning, ‘Sir, we need N5,000.’

“Naira was powerful then. It will become powerful again. Those who are deliberately devaluing our naira, before tomorrow morning, God will intervene.

“I asked my wife, ‘Do you need it today or later?’ She said ‘today’. I didn’t have a kobo. I told her to go. I cried to God. It wasn’t long after that; one man drove in.

“He asked what’s going on and then he put his hands in his pocket and brought out an envelope with some money.

“I then called on my wife and asked her, ‘How much do you say you need?’”

  • Meet Nigerian Girl, Amarachi Who Was Offered Admission In 3 Foreign Varsities

A Nigerian girl AMARACHI NWAMBA who lives in North West London made the best result in her College by scoring A* in all her 4 subjects (Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Spanish).

She received offers to study Medicine from University of Oxford, University College London (UCL) and Birmingham University. She accepted the offer from University of Oxford where she started her degree course in Medicine two weeks ago.

Amarachi is a daughter to a Nigeria couple Dr Ifeanyi Nwamba, a Consultant Surgeon in Italy who recently joined NHS England and Mrs Chinyere Nwamba (nee Ochomma) a Microbiologist with a postgraduate degree in Midwifery.

When asked what was behind this giant stride and success in her academic pursuit, Amarachi has this to say:

“The most important lesson I learned from my parents is that hard work pays off. 3 or 4 years ago, when I started to seriously think about where to apply to university, it seemed an unreachable goal. Now, I am medical student at the University of Oxford and looking back I understand the important steps I took to get here.

“Never let others distract you from your goals, stay focused, remember that you are struggling now for an easier and better future and most importantly, believe in yourself.

“It is also important to surround yourself with people who will not undermine your goals. It is easy to see others skating through life, seeming to put less effort into everything than you are and want to also be a part of that; so, associate yourself with people who understand your mindset and what you are trying to achieve.

“I was blessed to have family and friends who pushed me to do the very best that I could.

“Lastly, remember that you are not young forever. Opportunities such as these to prove yourself only come about once in a lifetime, so seize the day.”

The parents who are joyful for Amarachi’s wonderful performance thanked God for blessing them with hardworking Children. They revealed that it has also been a story of success with other Amarachi’s siblings.

Their first daughter Chimela graduated with First Class in Biomedical Science and proceeded to study Medicine at Brighton University while the second daughter Onyeka who is a student of Computer Science at Queen Mary University London was among the few successful candidates selected for one-year industrial attachment by Amazon UK. Their last son Chiemezue is also making his impact felt at the high school he attends.

”If he had finished that one year today or tomorrow he would have seized to be staff as we have signed him off. We don’t have information of what killed him but what we heard was that he went for an outing with his friends in one of the hotels in town and was swimming with other people and the next thing he was drowning and eventually they brought him to the hospital but by the time they reached the hospital he was already dead.
