FG Directs Compliance with “No Work, No Pay” Policy Amidst ASUU Strike

The Federal Government has invoked the “no work, no pay” policy in response to the strike initiated by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). A directive issued by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, instructs Vice-Chancellors of all federal universities to ensure full adherence to this policy for any employee not fulfilling their duties during the strike period.

To enforce this, the directive stipulates that roll calls must be conducted under the supervision of the National Universities Commission (NUC). Universities are required to submit reports identifying staff participation, and subsequently withhold salaries from those involved in the strike. This measure explicitly excludes members of the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA). The Minister concurrently urged ASUU to return to negotiations, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the education sector.
