  • UAE Slams Visa Ban on Nigerians, Rejects Applications

The United Arab Emirates Immigration authorities have slammed visa ban on Nigerians adding that all submitted applications are rejected and fees non-refundable.

It was gathered that the announcement was made on Friday in a notice issued to its trade partners in Nigeria including travel agencies.

Although no reason was given for the ban, the Dubai authorities declared that all applications were on-hold until issues between the UAE government and the Nigerian government were resolved.

The latest decision made by the UAE immigration authorities is for all Nigerians seeking to travel to the UAE.

“All Dubai applications submitted are now rejected. It is general for Nigerians and approvals are on hold at the moment.

“Kindly advise your clients to resubmit C2=A0 applications when the issue is resolved between both governments,” the notice to Nigerian travel agents declared.

A source from Wakanow, who confirmed the story said, “It is true, it was issued yesterday. The Dubai immigration did not state when the ban would be lifted but for now, everything is on hold.”

Speaking with a customer representative from Air Peace, it was gathered that the airline is still flying to Dubai with those who already have a valid visa. The representative added that if any changes were to occur as regards flight for Nigerians, it would be duly communicated, adding that no issue had been raised at the moment.

  • Strike: Why Move To Ban ASUU Will Fail- Osodeke

Strike: Why Move To Ban ASUU Will Fail- Osodeke

    The Nation Newspaper

National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, has declared that any move by the Federal Government or its agent, including Labour Minister Chris Ngige to ban the union will fail.

Osodeke said ASUU’s philosophy is premised on aligning with a worthy cause for the progress of the country’s educational sector and its positive multiplier effects on every other area of the nation.

The ASUU President also warned Vice Chancellors of public universities to shun dressing in the substandardapparel of Chief Executive Officers (C.E.Os) of universities when in reality; they are just the first among their equals in the academic community.

Osodeke spoke while delivering his goodwill message at the special commemorative programme organised by the ASUU Chapter of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, to honour the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ganiyu Olatunde, whose tenure ended two weeks ago and was succeeded by a Cancer Pathologist, Prof. Deji Agboola.

Osodeke, who described Ngige as a jester over his efforts at proscribing ASUU, also berated the Federal Government for always being envious of ASUU’s achievements at setting qualitative and enduring standards in the areas of infrastructural provisions and services when compared to the substandards it preferred dishing out despite the sufficient fund at its disposal to provide such.

“I can see why Ngige is interested in banning ASUU because once ASUU is proscribed, all the union’s assets automatically become Federal Government’s property, even when the government is bereft of ideas to put in place, qualitative assets in the midst of sufficient funds at its disposal as done in the University of Ibadan, UniPort, the University of Maiduguri among other places.

“You will never succeed in banning ASUU because ours is a union that assesses the system and aligns with the worthy course without being biased for the progress of the Nigerian educational society.”

Commenting on the VCs and ASUU’s relationship towards achieving excellent university administration, Osodeke maintained that any Vice Chancellor, who looks at the system and sees himself as one among equals will not have a problem running his university.

Citing examples of some universities where their VCs and Visitors still give approval before a university lecturer can be promoted, even despite the recommendation of the governing councils for such, he said some university VCs act with military fiats.

“One thing we have gotten wrong is that in the universities, we look at the VCs as Chief Executive Officers (C.E.Os) which by the law, it is not true. A Vice-Chancellor is just one among equals and it’s only when he sees himself as one that he will not have a problem with ASUU”.

“All the actions and things done by the committee set up; you are to look at those committees’ actions and agree or disagree. And when you disagree, you go back to them. Unfortunately, what we currently have in Nigeria is that over 90 percent of our universities today are VCs, who lookpermit at themselves as C.E.Os and there is nowhere in the laws that permits a VC as C.E.O. because everything he does can be challenged”.

From his explanation of the build to the attack, it was obvious that Apostle Suleiman had a clue about those behind the assassination attempt.

He traced the genesis of the attack to 2017 and advised the gunmen that attacked his convoy not to dabble into what they did not understand.

According to him, ” since 2017, there are certain things that have been happening that I have been quiet about .

“Even if you are the most quiet person on earth you will not give yourself to so many scandals.

There are things people don’t know. One or two persons took advantage of that and came out and say one or two things.

“The reason I am coming out to speak now is that they have done all that and discovered that I am still moving on, they decided to make attempts on my life.

“I just escaped an assassination attempt where seven people were killed.

My car was attacked, they opened fire on the car and kept spraying bullets.

My wife and my kids were there.

In the escort car, they killed the policemen, they killed other people in the other escort car and the bus.

“In all, they killed seven people in the convoy.

“People are expecting me to come out and mention their names so that they can deny it. I won’t.do that.

But the truth of the matter is this, you can’t kill me. My life is in the hand of God, I am a man of God and those who are attacking me, you are holding on to what you don’t understand. You may have joined the fora because you want to chase cloud but you don’t know where the fight started.

“There are things you don’t understand. You don’t even have an idea of the beginning of what happened in 2017 and the people that are behind it.

You are just doing your own thing. But it is beyond what you are thinking.

“I am alive for those who have been calling. I am well, family is fine.

“I feel bad for the lives that have been taken. We are mourning but Jesus is Lord.

“May the souls of those who were killed rest in peace.

And for the young men who opened fire and kept wasting people, I won’t take your life. But the seed that you have sown, you will reap it.

“I want Nigerians to know that a coordinated lie swallows an uncoordinated truth . With time the truth will come out”.

  • ASUU: NLC Rejects CONUA, NAMDA, Slams Ngige

ASUU: NLC Rejects CONUA, NAMDA, Slams Ngige

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has slammed the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige over the registration of two new academic unions in the Nigerian public university system.

Ngige wrote to the NLC on Tuesday, urging the labour leaders to rescind its opposition to the registration of two new academic unions in the Nigerian public university system.

But in a letter to the Minister, the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, demanded for the withdrawal of the letters issued to the unions, on the grounds that their registration contravened the laws guiding trade unionism.

Recall that the new unions – the Congress for Nigerian University Academics (CONUA) and the Nigeria Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) – received letters of recognition recently during a ceremony at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in Abuja.

Wabba argued that Section 3(2) of the Trade Union Act forbids and restricts the Minister from registering unions in sectors where a trade union already exists.

According to him, Section 5(2) of the Act provides for the gazetting of the registration of new trade unions and display of same for public objections for three months.

“Your biased attempt to re-group an existing trade union or actually individuals in utter disregard to tripartism which is a core pillar of the ILO is an attempt to interfere with, infiltrate and balkanize an existing trade union – at best to score on vendetta and at worst to destroy cordial industrial relations in Nigeria,” he stated.

“As the Chief Labour Officer of the Federal republic, we believe that you will take advantage of our presentation of the true position of the law to redress this grave injustice done to our labour jurisprudence by the ‘awarding’ of trade union certificates to CONUA and NAMDA.”
