  • I Was Once Told l Can Never Get Married – Ooni of Ife Third Wife Recounts Experience

The Ooni of Ife’s third wife, Tobi Philips has revealed how a man once informed her that she might never get married because she was sexually too appealing to be married.

Recall that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi married his third wife, Tobi Phillips on Sunday.

She took to her Instagram page on Monday to recount some of her experiences before getting married to the monarch, sharing her testimony, adding that a man’s comment had initially gotten her scared “but I kept my cool.”

Tobi also said she decided to ask God for a gift that will surprise those who have been “mean to me.”

She wrote, “Apparently I satisfied my creator by having this dream wedding shoot, without knowing I will be getting married soon. Well, I have always been the type who follows how she feels within, without questioning how foolish it may seem to others.

“Late July or early August someone made a statement that struck a nerve in me, I kept my cool with a smile. This guy literally said ‘He doesn’t see my kind of woman getting married, because he thinks I’m too va-va-voom.

“And that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I mean in the past 1year I hadn’t really questioned God nor requested any major thing.

“So, I practically promised God that I would share my public testimony by singing and dancing every Sunday on social media for as many Sundays as it requires for him to grant me a gift that will shock people who had said or done mean things to me.”

  • We HHave Four Types of Lecturers in University – ASUU President Explains

We HHave Four Types of Lecturers in University – ASUU President Explains

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, has stated that, there are four types of lecturers discharging their responsibilities in the nation’s tertiary institutions.

According to Osodeke, lecturers who are dedicated and passionate about the job are being frustrated out of Nigerian universities while those who are ‘accidental’ academics are now frustrating the academic system.

Osodeke made the assertion in Abuja on Monday at the continued engagement by the House of Representatives on the lingering crisis between the Federal Government and ASUU.

The ASUU president stated, “Our education is in dire need of all sorts of things, most importantly human resources. Now, we are busy creating so many universities but we are not creating academics who will teach in those universities. What you now have in those universities are what one of our leaders called the last two categories of lecturers.

“You have four types of lecturers in a university: the first set are those who from the primary school made up their minds that they were going to teach, so they entered the university as lecturers; whether they are paid little or not, they accept; they teach even when they have the opportunity of going to other areas, they remain in schools.

“The second are those who, when they finished (graduated), they go out with good certificates; because they wanted to make big money, they went to the Central Bank of Nigeria, but after some time they found out they didn’t belong there, even when they were earning higher; they came back to the university and take lesser pay because they believe they belonged to the university.

“We have the third type who entered the university because there was a job somewhere else – no job, nothing to do, so they came to the university frustrated; they are there creating problems for the system. Then you have the fourth group who have no idea; they were brought in by godfathers…‘just go and teach there.’ They have Higher National Diploma, some have Post Graduate Diploma, they have Third Class; they are now lecturers.

“So, those who have dominated the system today are these last two; because the categories one and two, who are frustrated, are leaving the country; the categories three and four cannot leave because nobody will take them as lecturers in any other part of the world. So, we need to look at this.”

Osodeke pointed out that ASUU called off its eight-month strike based on trust as there were no signatures appended to the agreements reached after the House intervened in the crisis.

He stated,ASUU and their members; they need their money. So, we will sit down with ASUU and look at what we have at the moment so that we can continue to pay them, and then gradually, incrementally, we are accommodating some of those material peculiarities that ASUU is complaining about.”

“What we agreed on the issue of UTAS and the IPPIS is a temporary measure. If there is a problem in payment, you challenge your universities to develop a programme for you as we were challenged. We were challenged to produce it (UTAS). We feel sad that we have to spend our money, time and resources to produce what we were challenged to do by the Minister of Labour on behalf of the government in 2020. We were challenged; we did not just produce it.

“So, we have agreed on that as an interim measure. Hopefully, subsequently, we will look for how to solve this problem once and for all. The IPPIS has not solved problems; it has created more problems. Check the wage bill before the IPPIS was introduced and check the wage bill now.”

The Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, however, argued that the agreement was for the Office of the government to modify the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System to capture the University Tertiary and Accountability Solution to capture the peculiarities with the university system.

Gbajabiamila said, “Like you rightly said, you called off the strike based on trust and I appreciate that and I agree with you. It was based on trust. But if you are now asking for a written agreement, then where is the place of trust? Those two cannot really go together. If you trusted me and you trusted the institution, asking for a signed agreement like a contract basically negates that trust. I remember that I sent what is considered to be the agreement to you – detailed – and I signed that document on behalf of the institution and I sent a copy also to the Presidency. So, there is something in writing.

“I will be very honest, this is the first time – we have had several meetings – I am hearing that this particular agreement on bringing UTAS into the IPPIS is ‘temporary’ or ‘interim;’ that was never used in the course of our proceedings. That was not the agreement. The agreement was not that it was a stop-gap, temporary measure.

“The agreement was to address the issue; UTAS should be brought into the IPPIS so that we can move on. So, I can also say ‘where is the trust?’ If we do this exercise and it works, then why do you need to change it if it is working? Why must we change it if it is working?”

The acting Accountant-General, Adolphus Aghughu, while assuring possible resolutions of the payment system issues, said “I think the right starting point will be for us to now have a comprehensive list of all the peculiarities of ASUU and their members. Whatever number it may be; whatever level of complication it may be, I believe that in three months, we should be able to clear this.

“But we have to continue to pay ASUU and their members; they need their money. So, we will sit down with ASUU and look at what we have at the moment so that we can continue to pay them, and then gradually, incrementally, we are accommodating some of those material peculiarities that ASUU is complaining about.”

  • ASUU, FG To Resolve UTAS-IPPIS Disagreement In 3 Months

ASUU, FG To Resolve UTAS-IPPIS Disagreement In 3 Months

    Daily Trust

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the federal government have agreed to work together and solve the issues regarding UTAS (University Accountability Solution) and IPPIS (Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System) payment platforms in three months.

The agreement came after the intervention of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and other members of the House at the resumed reconciliation meeting on Monday.

The IPPIS-UTASS debacle was a major issue in contention while the eight-month strike by the university lecturers lasted.

Speaking, the ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke promised that the union would work with the Accountant General’s office, NITDA and others to get a permanent solution to the problem.
He reminded that the union called off the strike based on trust to save the country’s education sector.

Osodeke stated that the lecturers had in the past agreed to terms presented by the government but were later let down.
He said, “We have agreed on IPPIS as a temporary measure and not long term because it will not solve the problems. They challenged us to produce a template for the government; we used our money and time to develop UTAS, which was not used.

“There is no way IPPIS can represent the universities. The greatest problem university has is funding. No university can invest again because of Treasury Single Account (TSA).”

He promised that ASUU woukd work with the other parties to find a lasting solution.
In his opening remark earlier, the Speaker said the meeting was a recap on the previous meetings aimed at finding a lasting solution to the UTASS payment platform which the university lecturers preferred to IPPIS, among other things.

He commended ASUU for suspending the strike in the spirit of patriotism and sacrifices for the nation.

He said they wanted to deal with the issue of UTAS by suggesting a marriage between the platform and IPPIS to provide a seamless operation if it will be possible in the long run.

He however said it was agreed that IPPIS would remain the payment platform while areas related to it and UTAS are being considered for possible synergy.
Gbajabiamila stated that the Office of the Accountant General would midwife the process to resolve the issue through a robust cooperation with ASUU and other stakeholders.

He however demanded that a timeline must be provided for ASUU to be comfortable that agreements are being implemented.

On his part, the Accountant General of the Federation, Sylva Okolieaboh, demanded that ASUU present a comprehensive peculiarities list of UTAS promising that the matter would be resolved in three months.

  • Campaign Council: How Atiku Disrespected Me – Governor Wike

Campaign Council: How Atiku Disrespected Me – Governor Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Monday said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, did not consult him before he picked members of his campaign council from the state.

The governor, who spoke at the inauguration of the Rivers State PDP Campaign Council in Port Harcourt, the state capital, claimed Atiku selected “enemies” of Rivers into his campaign council for the 2023 general elections.

Wike also explained that Atiku’s photos and those of PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, have been missing in PDP campaign materials in the state because they don’t want him to campaign for the party at the national level.

“Some people have asked me why is it that they don’t see the presidential candidate’s picture (and) the party chairman’s? I said what are you talking about? The presidential candidate entered my state and picked members of the presidential council without a whole governor of a state having a contribution,” he said.

“The presidential candidate entered Rivers State and picked those he wants to pick without the contribution of the governor. So, they said they don’t need me to campaign for them, that they don’t need Rivers people to campaign for them. Will you force yourself?

“I have never seen how people will disrespect a state like Rivers State and go and choose those who are enemies of the state without the contributions of us.”

Wike said PDP members in Rivers do not know the state nominees in Atiku’s campaign list, noting that he and the party in the state will only campaign for the governorship candidate, the senatorial candidates, and others who carried them along.

“If they want us to be involved in the campaign, they will come and tell us. If he thinks we are important, they will come and meet us,” the governor noted, adding that nobody can intimidate Rivers when he is governor of the state.

    Not For Sharing Money’
During the inauguration of the state campaign council for PDP on Monday, Wike said, “This campaign council is to bring out strategies on how to campaign on how to follow the election. This election is a different election. It will not be as usual.”

The governor said each local government in Rivers will have its own strategy to mobilise the people.

“Some of you have been quarreling that my name is not there. The campaign council is just a general policy council and they will now bring people who will be in each of the committees…those of you who are crying my name is not there, everybody’s names cannot be in the campaign council; it is not possible.

“And two, the campaign council is not for sharing money. I am the chairman of the campaign council. So, think that you will submit your budget to the governor and DG (director general). The campaign council will approve every budget which is presided over by me, the DG is for implementation. So, don’t think that the governor is my person. It doesn’t work that way.”

    Unending Infighting
Wike has been having a running battle with Atiku and Ayu for months, insisting northerners cannot occupy both positions.

With the official commencement of campaigns for the 2023 elections, the PDP in late September unveiled a 600-member campaign council headed by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel.

Atiku and his supporters have been seen at rallies in Bauchi, Kaduna, Akwa Ibom, and a few places. However, Wike and his allies like Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) have not been seen at any rally of the PDP presidential candidate.

Since he lost the PDP presidential ticket to Atiku at the party’s primary in May, Wike has for months demanded Ayu’s resignation over what he termed “injustice” to southerners.

Atiku, Nigeria’s former Vice President between 1999 and 2007, is in the race for Aso Rock’s top job alongside top contenders like Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

  • British Politician, Rishi Sunak Emerges UK’s Prime Minister

British politician Rishi Sunak has emerged as the UK prime minister after rival Penny Mordaunt failed to secure the necessary 100 nominations from her fellow MPs.

Mr Sunak won the support of an overwhelming majority of Tory MPs, enabling him to claim the keys to No10.

Sunak will become Britain’s first PM of Indian heritage.

Ms Mordaunt dropped out of the contest at the last minute this afternoon after she failed to secure the support of 100 colleagues.

The ex-Chancellor took an early lead in the Tory leadership race, having lost the last one to Liz Truss just weeks ago.

Within hours of Ms Truss announcing her resignation last Thursday, MPs came out in droves to support Mr Sunak.

But his chances of moving to Downing Street were dramatically slashed when Boris Johnson informally launched a spectacular comeback bid.

The ex-PM left his glamorous holiday in the Dominican Republic to fly back to London and shore up support.

Tory heavyweights split between two camps, with James Cleverly and Priti Patel going team Boris, and Grant Shapps and Kemi Badenoch waving the flag for Rishi.

Over the weekend Ms Mordaunt trailed behind the pair, with only around two dozen MPs backing her campaign.

On Sunday Mr Johnson made a late night exit from the race.

The former Prime Minster insisted he had the numbers to go to a vote of the Conservative membership.

But he threw in the towel as MPs broke for Mr Sunak at a rate of more than two to one.

No fewer than three supporters of Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Lagos State, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor were injured after thugs attacked his campaign train.

According to Channels Television, the incident happened on Sunday evening at the Ikoga Junction area of Badagry Local Government.

PDP Publicity Secretary in Lagos State, Mr Hakeem Amode, confirmed the attack in a statement on Sunday, saying several members of the party and journalists sustained injuries.

One of the journalists, he stated, is in critical condition in an undisclosed hospital while those injured are been treated.

“The campaign train of the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party was attacked today while returning from visitation to members of the party at the Ikoga Junction area of Badagry Local Government by All Progressives Congress sponsored thugs this evening,” he stated.

“The attack led to injuries of several members of Jandor’s entourage and pressmen. As of the time of this press statement, one of the news reporters is in critical condition in an undisclosed hospital while those injured are been treated.

“The thugs that attack the campaign train were shouting APC while shooting guns and using dangerous weapons.

“You will recall that our party raised concern over the threat to use APC-sponsored thugs to attack the campaign programs of our Gubernatorial candidate Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran-Jandor recently and we would like to state categorically that this will not deter the determination of our candidate to campaign for the next election and win the election come March 29, 2023.”

The PDP spokesman also called on the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, Area Commander of Police in the Badagry division to do everything possible to fish out those behind the attack.

He equally wants the police authorities to take necessary disciplinary actions taken against the perpetrators of the attack to forestall such occurrences in the future and to instil confidence in PDP members that they will be protected during this campaign period.

“We would like to also strongly warn those that are hell bent on causing trouble or planning to disrupt the campaign and elections that we would not fold our arms watch as we will resist all forms of intimidation,” Amode added.

“So, I went to check on her, I was told she had been attended to and had left the place. I became agitated.
