ILORIN — Vice President Kashim Shettima has commissioned the Kwara Garment Factory in Ilorin, a major industrial project of the Kwara State Government projected to create at least 4,000 jobs when operating at full capacity.
Shettima performed the commissioning on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, during his visit to Kwara State, where he also inaugurated the newly constructed 11-storey Kwara Revenue Service (KWRS) House.
The garment factory, located along Airport Road in Ilorin, is designed for multi-shift production and is being positioned by the state government as a major hub for garment manufacturing, local production and employment generation.
Reports indicate that more than 500 workers have already been recruited and trained for the initial phase of operations, with the workforce expected to increase as production expands.
The facility is one of the flagship projects of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration, with the state government saying it is intended to strengthen industrialisation, diversify the state’s economy and create opportunities, particularly for young people and women.
The commissioning formed part of activities surrounding the turbaning of Governor AbdulRazaq as the Sardauna of Ilorin by the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
The Vice President’s visit also included the commissioning of the 11-storey KWRS House, which serves as the headquarters of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service.
With the garment factory’s projected capacity of 4,000 direct jobs, the project is expected to become one of the state’s major employment-generating industrial investments once it reaches full production.
The commissioning comes as Kwara continues to promote manufacturing and other capital projects as part of efforts to expand economic activity beyond the public sector.
