The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the 2026/2027 admission process through its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). The CAPS dashboard currently shows admissions moving through different stages before candidates can accept an offer.
Here are 7 important facts every 2026 UTME admission seeker should understand:
- “Admission in Progress” does not mean you have been admitted
A candidate may see an admission process moving through JAMB CAPS without having a final admission offer. Admission passes through several stages before it becomes available for the candidate to accept.
- “Recommended/Proposed” means the institution has started considering you
When your status indicates that you are being recommended or considered, it generally means your institution has initiated the admission process, but the admission is not yet a final offer.
- “Approved for Candidates Acceptance” is a major stage
This means the admission has gone through the necessary institutional/JAMB processing and is now available for the candidate to take action on CAPS. JAMB’s current dashboard specifically separates candidates whose admissions are approved for acceptance from those merely under recommendation or desk-officer processing.
- “Admitted” means you have received an offer
When JAMB CAPS shows an admission offer, the candidate should not assume the process is complete until the offer is properly accepted. JAMB has advised candidates with admission offers to accept or reject them promptly.
- Candidates should regularly check CAPS
Do not rely only on your school’s admission portal, SMS or social-media announcements. JAMB says CAPS allows candidates to check their admission status and confirm provisional admissions electronically.
- Accepting an admission is an important decision
Once an admission offer appears, candidates should carefully check the institution, course and admission details before accepting. CAPS was designed partly to allow candidates to confirm provisional admissions and reduce cases of candidates abandoning offers.
- Not admitted yet does NOT automatically mean you have lost admission
The 2026 admission process is ongoing. JAMB’s live CAPS statistics show candidates at different stages, including those awaiting institutional recommendation, those on desk officers’ tables, those approved for acceptance and those whose admissions have already been accepted.
Bottom line: For 2026 UTME candidates, don’t panic when your CAPS status has not changed to “Admitted.” The key is to understand the stage displayed, keep checking your JAMB e-Facility/CAPS account and act immediately when a genuine admission offer becomes available.
