The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced a new system for the verification of candidates’ O’Level results, aimed at improving the authentication of results submitted for admission processing.
The development has raised questions among candidates who already uploaded their WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results to the JAMB portal, particularly whether they are required to go through the new verification process again.
Candidates who already uploaded O’Level results
Candidates who previously uploaded their O’Level results should not automatically upload the same result again simply because the new verification process has been introduced.
JAMB’s existing guidelines require candidates who are not awaiting results to provide their qualifications and upload the relevant certificates, while candidates who registered with awaiting results are required to upload their results once they become available.
The new verification mechanism is intended to authenticate O’Level information against records from the relevant examination bodies. Therefore, candidates should first check their JAMB profile and follow any specific instruction displayed for their account before taking further action.
Who should pay particular attention?
Candidates should check their O’Level status if:
- Their result was registered as awaiting result during UTME registration.
- They have subsequently obtained their WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result but have not uploaded it.
- Their previously uploaded result is not showing correctly on their JAMB profile.
- There is an error in their subjects, grades or examination details.
- Their institution has asked them to complete or update O’Level verification.
- They are using two O’Level results and need to ensure that both are properly captured.
JAMB has consistently maintained that awaiting-result candidates must upload their results to the Board’s portal before they can be considered for admission.
What about candidates whose results are already showing?
If a candidate’s O’Level result has already been uploaded and is correctly reflected on the JAMB profile, the safest step is to verify the information displayed rather than making a duplicate upload unnecessarily.
Candidates should confirm that:
The examination body is correct;
The examination year is correct;
Their examination number is correct where applicable;
Their subjects and grades are correctly reflected;
The required credits for their chosen course are available.
This is particularly important because O’Level requirements differ according to the institution and programme. JAMB’s Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS) allows candidates to check programme eligibility based on their O’Level subjects and grades.
Does the new system mean everyone must start again?
No. Candidates should not interpret the introduction of O’Level verification as an instruction for every candidate to discard a previously successful upload and start over.
The key issue is whether the candidate’s O’Level information is properly captured and verifiable on the JAMB system.
JAMB’s admission processing system uses candidates’ O’Level information as part of the qualification assessment. Its current CAPS dashboard also tracks candidates according to their O’Level results and qualification status.
What candidates should do now
Candidates are advised to:
Step 1: Log into the official JAMB e-Facility portal.
[JAMB e-Facility Portal](https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng/Login?
Step 2: Check whether their O’Level result is already displayed.
Step 3: Confirm that the subjects, grades and examination details are correct.
Step 4: If the result is missing, incomplete or incorrect, follow JAMB’s current instruction for verification/upload.
Step 5: Candidates with awaiting results should upload their results as soon as they become available.
Step 6: Candidates should avoid paying unofficial agents to “verify” results unless the service is being carried out through an authorised JAMB channel.
Bottom line
Already uploaded does not automatically mean you need to upload again. Candidates whose O’Level results are already correctly captured should first check their JAMB profile and comply only with any verification instruction specifically applicable to their account.
Candidates with awaiting results, missing results, incorrect grades or verification problems should take action because O’Level status remains an important part of the admission process.
Important: JAMB’s official portal and current FAQ should take precedence over instructions circulating on WhatsApp, Facebook or from cybercafés.
