FG Declares Tuesday Public Holiday To Mark Eid ul Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued on Friday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

The minister congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora on the occasion, urging Nigerians to reflect on the values associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

Tunji-Ojo said Eid ul Mawlid provides an opportunity for Nigerians to draw lessons from a life characterised by compassion, humility and service to humanity.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” the minister said.

He urged Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation, to embrace these values, which he described as essential to promoting peace, unity and national cohesion.

The minister also called on citizens to use the occasion to pray for peace and stability across the country, while urging celebrants to mark the religious festival with restraint, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.

The declaration means Tuesday, August 25, will be observed as a work-free public holiday by institutions covered by the Federal Government’s holiday declaration.

The Federal Government subsequently wished Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid ul Mawlid celebration.
