The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially entered a new phase in its leadership as Professor Is-haq Oloyede handed over to Professor Segun Aina, bringing an end to his 10-year tenure as Registrar of the examination body.
The handover ceremony took place on Friday, July 31, 2026, marking the conclusion of Oloyede’s second and final term in office. The event was streamed live on JAMB’s official social media platforms, where stakeholders, education administrators and members of the public witnessed the historic transition.
Professor Oloyede, who assumed office in August 2016, is widely credited with introducing major reforms that strengthened transparency, improved the credibility of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), expanded the use of technology, and significantly increased JAMB’s remittances to the Federal Government. His administration also intensified efforts against examination malpractice and admission fraud.
His successor, Professor Segun Aina, is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. Before his appointment, Aina built a reputation as an expert in digital infrastructure, examination systems, and institutional reforms, having worked with agencies including NECO and NABTEB on ICT-driven examination integrity projects.
President Bola Tinubu, who appointed Aina earlier this year, expressed confidence that the new Registrar would consolidate on the reforms initiated under Oloyede while driving further innovation in Nigeria’s tertiary admission system. The Presidency also described Aina as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
With Professor Aina now at the helm, education stakeholders will be watching closely to see how JAMB builds on the gains recorded over the past decade, particularly in the areas of digital transformation, examination integrity, and efficient admission processing.
