Troops of the Nigerian Army, backed by the Nigerian Air Force, have successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late former Director Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar, from bandits’ captivity after weeks of intensive search operations.
The military disclosed that the rescue followed sustained offensives carried out by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA against criminal elements terrorising parts of Katsina State.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, troops tracked the bandits to Tunga Village during coordinated search-and-rescue operations.
The military said the troops engaged the criminals while mounting intense pressure on them, forcing the bandits to abandon the victim and flee.
“In the course of the encounter, the bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing due to the overwhelming pressure from advancing troops,” the statement said.
Mrs. Abubakar was immediately evacuated by the troops to a military hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding positively, according to the Armed Forces.
The military leadership assured that all necessary medical and family support are being provided to ensure her full recovery.
It also vowed to sustain ongoing operations aimed at tracking down the fleeing bandits and restoring peace to affected communities in Katsina State and other troubled parts of the country.
The statement, dated June 15, 2026, was signed by Major General Samaila Uba, Director Defence Information.
