Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has officially secured the ticket of the All Progressives Congress for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections in Katsina State.

His emergence followed weeks of intense political consultations, strategic endorsements, and behind-the-scenes negotiations within the APC structure in Katsina.
Although the process was eventually concluded through consensus, party insiders described the contest as politically delicate due to competing interests and pressure from various stakeholders within the constituency.
Yusuf had formally declared his ambition earlier in April, stating his desire to provide “good leadership and development” to the people of the constituency. His declaration immediately generated widespread attention across Katsina and the wider northern political bloc due to the enduring influence of the Buhari political family in the state.
The turning point came during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Katsina on April 28, where party leaders unanimously adopted Yusuf Buhari as the APC consensus candidate for the constituency. The decision effectively cleared the path for his emergence without a direct primary election contest.
The consensus arrangement was announced by Ahmed Dangiwa, chairman of the Daura Zone Consensus Committee and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, who said stakeholders agreed on Yusuf’s candidacy to preserve unity within the party.
Political observers noted that Yusuf Buhari’s victory was strengthened by several factors, including the continued popularity of the Buhari name in Katsina North, support from influential APC leaders, and backing reportedly linked to Governor Dikko Umar Radda’s political camp.
Party officials in Mai’adua and Daura also appealed to aggrieved aspirants and supporters to accept the consensus outcome in good faith and work for the unity of the APC ahead of the general elections.
Speaking after his emergence, Yusuf Buhari thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and promised to deliver quality representation if elected into the House of Representatives.
His emergence has since sparked mixed reactions across the political space, with supporters describing it as a continuation of the Buhari political legacy, while critics questioned the growing influence of political dynasty within Nigerian politics.
