Gunmen Abduct Six Undergraduates in Nasarawa

Suspected gunmen have abducted six students of the Faculty of Engineering, Gudi Campus of Nasarawa State University, Keffi in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The students were reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday night after armed attackers stormed an off-campus students’ lodge located at Anguwar Ninzo in Gudi community. Police authorities said the incident occurred at about 9 p.m. when the assailants invaded the residence and whisked the victims away to an unknown destination.

The spokesperson of the Nasarawa State Police Command, Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the attack in a statement issued in Lafia, noting that six of the abducted persons had been identified as engineering students of the university, while another victim was said to be visiting one of the students at the time of the incident.

Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reportedly visited the scene and ordered an intensified rescue operation. Security operatives, including the police, DSS, military personnel, NSCDC operatives and local vigilantes, have since been deployed to track down the abductors and secure the release of the victims.

The incident has sparked fear among students and residents of the university community, amid growing concerns over insecurity and recurring kidnappings targeting schools and communities across parts of northern Nigeria.
