Ile-Ife, Nigeria — The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has denied allegations that it prevented a planned visit by former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to its campus.

In an official statement, the university clarified that it did not at any time place restrictions on Obi’s visit, countering claims circulating on social media that the institution blocked or frustrated the engagement.
OAU authorities explained that all visits by high-profile individuals—particularly those with political affiliations—are subject to established protocols aimed at ensuring security, order, and proper coordination within the university environment.
The management emphasized that the institution remains non-partisan and committed to upholding its academic traditions, which include providing a platform for intellectual engagement and the exchange of ideas.
While reaffirming its openness to hosting notable figures, the university urged the public to disregard misleading narratives and rely on verified information regarding campus activities.
The clarification comes amid heightened public interest in Obi’s interactions with students across Nigerian universities, where he has continued to engage young people on issues of governance, leadership, and national development.
