President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments across key agencies in Nigeria’s education sector, in a move aimed at strengthening institutional leadership and improving service delivery.
At the centre of the announcement is the appointment of Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council (NECO). The council plays a critical role in the conduct of national examinations, making the leadership change significant for the country’s assessment framework.
Similarly, Babatunde Salako has been named Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the regulatory body responsible for overseeing technical and vocational education in Nigeria. The appointment is expected to bolster efforts toward skills development and technical capacity building.
In the polytechnic system, Bongfa Binfa has been appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, reinforcing leadership at the institution.
The President also approved the retention and renewal of key officials in strategic positions. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi will continue as Registrar of NECO, ensuring continuity in the examination body’s operations. Idris Bugaje has been reappointed for a second and final term as Executive Secretary of NBTE, while Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s tenure as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria has also been renewed.
The latest appointments signal the administration’s continued focus on reforming the education sector through strategic leadership placements. Analysts say the move could enhance policy implementation, institutional stability, and overall performance across agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education.
