The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially commenced applications for the second batch of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, in a renewed push to tackle unemployment and boost skills acquisition across the country.

The application portal for the programme, which targets young Nigerians and other interested individuals seeking practical skills, opened on Monday, April 13, 2026.

The TVET initiative, fully funded by the government, is structured to equip participants with industry-relevant competencies through hands-on training in various vocational fields. It features two distinct tracks: a six-month Short-Term Certificate (STC) programme designed for beginners, and a one-year Vocational Education and Innovation (VEI) track tailored for individuals with prior experience or foundational skills.

Successful applicants will benefit from free tuition, a monthly stipend estimated at ₦22,500, and access to nationally recognised certifications upon completion. In addition, participants may qualify for startup support and financing opportunities to help transition into entrepreneurship or employment.

Training will be offered across a wide range of sectors, including electrical installation, welding and fabrication, ICT and digital media, automobile repair, fashion and cosmetology, as well as agriculture and renewable energy.

To be eligible, applicants are required to possess a valid National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN), and must demonstrate commitment to the full duration of the programme.

The government noted that the programme will be implemented nationwide, with accredited training centres in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, ensuring broad accessibility.

The first phase of the TVET programme recorded massive interest, with over 1.3 million applications, underscoring the growing demand for technical and vocational skills among Nigerians.
