BREAKING: MTN Network Crashes in Lagos, Oyo, Rivers, Delta, Abuja — Company Reveals What Subscribers Should Know

MTN Nigeria has confirmed a network disruption affecting some of its customers in Lagos, Oyo, Rivers and Delta states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The telecommunications giant announced the development on Thursday, October 8, 2026, through a network outage alert to customers.

According to MTN, subscribers in some parts of the affected locations may be temporarily unable to access some of its services.

The company said:

«“We’re experiencing network challenges in some parts of Oyo, Lagos, Rivers, FCT and Delta States and our services may be temporarily unavailable as a result.”»

MTN engineers working to restore services

MTN assured affected customers that its engineers were already working to resolve the problem and restore normal services as quickly as possible.

The company subsequently apologised to customers experiencing difficulties, asking them to remain patient while its technical teams work on the network.

What subscribers may experience

Customers in affected areas may experience difficulties with:

  • Making or receiving calls
  • Mobile internet/data services
  • Sending or receiving SMS
  • Other MTN network-dependent services

However, MTN has not indicated that the entire states or the whole of Abuja are affected. Its alert specifically refers to “some parts” of Oyo, Lagos, Rivers, FCT and Delta.

What caused the MTN outage?

As of the time of this report, MTN has not disclosed the specific cause of the latest disruption or provided a definite time for complete restoration.

The latest incident has nevertheless generated concerns among subscribers who depend on the network for communication, internet access, banking transactions, business activities and other daily services.
