JAMB Opens One-Time SIM, Email Change Service for Candidates Who Lost Access (Step-by-Step Guide)
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced a new, controlled process allowing candidates who have genuinely lost access to their registered GSM numbers and/or email addresses to update their contact details.
The Board explained the procedure in a new “JAMB Explained” video shared on its official X account, providing candidates with step-by-step guidance on how to access the service.
The development, which took effect on September 21, 2026, is aimed at candidates who can no longer use the phone number or recover the email account originally linked to their JAMB profile.
JAMB said the new arrangement follows the introduction of stronger identity and biometric verification measures designed to prevent impersonation, fraud and unauthorised alterations to candidates’ records.

The service is specifically for candidates who have genuinely lost access to their registered SIM card or email account.
It is not presented as a routine option for candidates who simply want to replace an active phone number or email address.
JAMB also stressed that the service can be used only once, meaning candidates must ensure that the new details they provide are correct before completing the process.
What do candidates need?
Candidates seeking to use the service are required to have:
- A new GSM number, where a phone-number change is required;
- A new email address, where an email change is required;
- A duly executed court affidavit supporting the request;
- The affidavit scanned and ready for upload;
- Their existing JAMB profile credentials, including the email address, Registration Number or Profile Code, where applicable.
How to change your JAMB phone number or email address
According to the procedure outlined by JAMB, candidates should follow these steps:
Step 1: Obtain a court affidavit
The affected candidate should obtain a duly executed court affidavit supporting the request to swap the lost GSM number and/or change the inaccessible email address.
The document should subsequently be scanned for upload during the process.
Step 2: Log into JAMB e-Facility
The candidate should log into their JAMB e-Facility profile using the available existing credentials.
JAMB’s latest procedure indicates that candidates can use details such as their email address, Registration Number or Profile Code to access the relevant service.
Step 3: Select the SIM Swap/Email Change payment option
From the available menu, candidates should select “SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment” and pay the prescribed fee.

The candidate will then select the appropriate option:
- GSM Number only

- Both GSM Number and Email Address

The scanned copy of the court affidavit is uploaded as part of the verification and update process.
Step 9: Submit the request
After confirming the information entered, the candidate clicks “Update” to complete the process.
A confirmation message will be displayed if the update is successfully completed.
