JAMB Announces Major Changes, Moves to End Candidates’ Registration and Exam Troubles

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced major reforms aimed at ending some of the difficulties candidates face during registration, examinations and other board services.

The decisions were reached during an intensive management retreat held by the board last week, according to the JAMB Registrar, who disclosed the developments in a statement shared on X.

One of the biggest changes is the planned integration of the Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS) into JAMB’s Pre-Registration App.

With the new system, candidates will be able to check their eligibility, institutions and programmes before going to a registration centre.

The move is expected to help candidates avoid choosing programmes or institutions for which they are not eligible and reduce unnecessary trips to registration centres.

JAMB targets problems faced by Nigerians abroad

JAMB also approved measures to make its services more accessible to candidates living outside Nigeria.

The board said it would introduce profiled email services, online payment options and easier access to services currently provided through 55019 and 66019.

The development is expected to make it easier for candidates abroad to complete essential JAMB processes remotely.

Candidates affected by rescheduling to get better communication

The board further resolved to strengthen the process for rescheduling eligible candidates.

JAMB said there would be clearer timelines, better communication and more notification channels, ensuring that candidates affected by examination changes receive information on time.

JAMB tightens CCTV, CBT centre rules

The board is also moving to strengthen the accreditation and monitoring of CBT centres.

Among the measures approved is mandatory remote viewing of CCTV systems as part of efforts to prevent examination malpractice.

JAMB also approved improved network testing for CBT centres, accessibility considerations for persons living with disabilities and stricter safeguards against CBT centres using borrowed equipment.

Refund coming for failed JAMB services

In another move likely to interest candidates, JAMB directed service providers to improve their complaint-resolution systems and reduce cases of failed or delayed messages.

The board also directed that candidates who make payments for services that are not delivered should be refunded.

The decision is aimed at strengthening accountability and protecting candidates from paying for services they ultimately do not receive.

JAMB management undergoes fresh training

The retreat also featured training for JAMB management and staff on adaptive leadership, innovation, change management and customer-centred service.

According to the Registrar, the sessions were designed to strengthen accountability, responsiveness and ownership in every interaction with candidates and stakeholders.

The board said the decisions are part of efforts to build greater public trust and deliver a simpler, safer and more responsive registration, examination and admission process.

For millions of prospective UTME candidates, the proposed changes could mean fewer registration errors, better communication, stronger examination security and improved access to JAMB services.
