The Kwara State Police Command has reacted to a viral video alleging that a motorcyclist was shot by police officers at Oyun Bridge, Ilorin.
The Command, in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, dismissed the shooting claim, saying no person was shot during the incident.
According to the police, the incident occurred during a routine patrol and stop-and-search operation around Oyun Bridge.
The Command identified the motorcyclist as 23-year-old Abdurasaq Lukman, alleging that he was riding at top speed when he knocked down Corporal Saka Azeez, a police officer on duty.
Police authorities said the collision left Corporal Azeez with serious head injuries and a fracture, while Lukman sustained minor injuries.
Following the incident, other officers reportedly rushed both the injured policeman and the motorcyclist to a medical facility for treatment.
The police said Lukman was treated and discharged but is currently in police custody while assisting investigators with inquiries into the incident.
Corporal Azeez, meanwhile, remains under medical care and is expected to undergo further examinations and scans to determine the full extent of his head injury.
The Command urged members of the public to exercise caution before sharing unverified information, particularly concerning sensitive incidents involving security personnel.
Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo AdeKimi, psc, mnips, acknowledged citizens’ concerns about police activities but stressed the importance of verifying information before circulating it.

The police clarification comes amid the circulation of videos and claims on social media alleging that the motorcyclist was shot by police personnel at the Oyun Bridge area.
