The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has fixed firm deadlines for Nigerian universities to conclude the 2026 admission exercise, with institutions facing restrictions on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) if they fail to meet the approved dates.
The directive was part of the resolutions reached at the 2026 JAMB Annual Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions, held in Abuja.
Under the approved timetable, public universities — including federal and state institutions — are expected to conclude their admission processes on or before October 31, 2026. Private universities have until November 30, 2026, while polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education have until December 31, 2026 to complete their admission exercises.
CAPS access at risk
JAMB also issued a strong warning to institutions that fail to operate within the approved admission schedule.
According to the board, an institution that fails to conclude its admission exercise within the stipulated period will lose access to candidates on CAPS after the deadline.
CAPS is JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System, which automates the admission process and allows candidates to monitor and respond to admission offers.
Candidates get four weeks to accept admission
JAMB also approved a four-week window for candidates to accept or reject admission offers after the admissions have been approved.
The board warned that failure to accept an approved admission within the stipulated period could lead to the admission being deleted at the request of the institution.
Candidates who refuse to accept approved admissions may also be placed in the board’s “refusal to accept” category, with possible consequences for subsequent admission consideration.

With the public-university deadline less than two months away, candidates awaiting admission are advised to:
- Regularly check their JAMB CAPS profile.
- Monitor their chosen institution’s admission portal.
- Accept an admission offer promptly once it appears on CAPS.
- Ensure their O’Level results and other required credentials are properly uploaded and verified.
- Avoid relying solely on messages from third parties about admission status.
The official JAMB CAPS platform is available through the board’s website and is the system used for processing and communicating admissions.
