Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 48 kidnapped victims following a swift military response to a terrorist attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation took place in the early hours of Sunday, July 26, 2026, after security forces received a distress call that dozens of heavily armed terrorists, riding on about 40 motorcycles, had invaded the community and abducted residents.
According to military authorities, troops from Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA immediately mobilised to the area and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle. Overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower, the terrorists abandoned all 48 captives and fled into the surrounding forest.
The military confirmed that all the abducted victims were rescued alive. However, the attack claimed the life of one civilian, while two others sustained gunshot injuries. The injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital, Kaura Namoda, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Security forces have launched a follow-up operation to track down the fleeing terrorists and prevent further attacks in the area.
The latest rescue is part of ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling terrorist and bandit networks across Nigeria’s North-West, particularly in Zamfara, where communities have faced repeated attacks, kidnappings and other violent crimes in recent years.
