Tinubu Rolls Out $3bn Mega Poverty Fight, Unveils Five Game-Changing Programmes

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially launched a sweeping poverty reduction initiative valued at more than $3 billion, unveiling five flagship programmes aimed at lifting millions of Nigerians out of poverty, creating jobs, and strengthening social protection across the country.

The programmes, launched on Thursday in Abuja, form part of the Federal Government’s renewed strategy to tackle multidimensional poverty, improve livelihoods, and accelerate inclusive economic growth.

The five initiatives include:

The National Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy (NPRGS)

The Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme

The Rural Livelihood and Agricultural Support Initiative

The Community Infrastructure and Social Protection Programme

The Digital Skills and Economic Inclusion Initiative

Speaking at the launch, President Tinubu said the programmes are designed to empower vulnerable Nigerians through targeted investments in agriculture, entrepreneurship, digital innovation, education, and critical infrastructure.

According to him, the interventions will create sustainable jobs, boost food security, expand access to finance for small businesses, and improve living standards, particularly in rural communities.

Tinubu stressed that poverty remains one of Nigeria’s biggest challenges and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing people-centred policies that deliver measurable results.

The President also called on state governments, development partners, the private sector, and civil society organisations to support the implementation of the programmes to ensure maximum impact nationwide.

The over $3 billion funding is expected to come from a combination of federal allocations, development finance institutions, international partners, and private-sector investments.

Government officials said the initiatives will be implemented in phases, with priority given to communities facing the highest levels of poverty and unemployment.

The launch comes as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to cushion the impact of ongoing economic reforms while promoting long-term economic resilience and inclusive growth.
