Ibadan, Oyo State | Wednesday, June 24, 2026
Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered the immediate imposition of a curfew in parts of Oyo State as security agencies intensify efforts to rescue pupils and teachers abducted by suspected terrorists.
The curfew, announced on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, is intended to restrict movement in the affected areas and provide security operatives with a conducive environment to carry out coordinated search-and-rescue operations.
The decision follows the abduction of pupils and teachers earlier this week, an incident that has heightened security concerns and prompted an intensified response from the state government and security agencies.
Governor Makinde urged residents to strictly comply with the curfew and cooperate with security personnel by providing credible information that could assist in locating the victims. He assured the public that the state government is working closely with the military, police and other security agencies to secure the safe release of those abducted.
Authorities also appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and allow security operatives to conduct the rescue mission without interference.
Further details, including the duration of the curfew, the affected communities and updates on the rescue operation, are expected as the situation unfolds.
