NDC Tightens Grip on Members, Introduces Indemnity Forms

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has introduced fresh measures aimed at discouraging defections from its ranks, directing members to sign indemnity forms as part of efforts to strengthen party discipline and loyalty.

The party leadership said the move became necessary amid increasing political realignments and concerns over members allegedly engaging in discussions with rival political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to party officials, the indemnity forms are designed to secure members’ commitment to the party’s ideals, constitution and strategic objectives. The forms are also expected to serve as a formal undertaking by members to remain loyal to the NDC and refrain from actions capable of undermining the party.

The development comes as the NDC continues to witness a surge in membership following the defection of several politicians and lawmakers from other political platforms. Party leaders, however, expressed concerns that some members could be tempted to switch allegiance as political activities intensify ahead of the next election cycle.

Speaking on the initiative, party officials maintained that the NDC would not tolerate indiscipline or anti-party activities, warning that members found working against the party’s interests could face sanctions in line with its constitution.

Political analysts say the indemnity requirement signals the party’s determination to maintain internal cohesion and prevent an exodus that could weaken its growing influence in Nigeria’s political landscape.

With preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gathering pace, the NDC appears focused on consolidating its membership base while ensuring that those seeking political opportunities under its platform remain committed to the party’s vision and objectives.
