Midnight Gun Battle: Police Rescue Adelabu’s Sister, Twin Children Three Days After Ibadan Abduction

The Nigeria Police have successfully rescued the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, alongside her 12-year-old twin children, following a fierce late-night rescue operation in Oyo State.

The victims — Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her twin sons, Peter and Paul — were rescued around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, after spending three days in captivity.

The victims were abducted earlier at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, while Mrs. John-Paul was reportedly driving the children to school in the Challenge/Elewura area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Security sources disclosed that the rescue mission turned violent when police operatives engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel during the operation. Two suspected kidnappers were reportedly neutralised, while security agents recovered firearms and other items from the criminals.

According to sources, sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated tactical pressure mounted on the abductors helped security operatives track the hideout where the victims were being held.

The rescued victims were said to be in stable condition after regaining freedom, while security agencies have launched a manhunt for other fleeing gang members believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.

The abduction had generated widespread concern across Oyo State, prompting assurances from Governor Seyi Makinde that security agencies would ensure the safe return of the victims.
