LThe Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has officially appointed Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as the Chief Imam Fulani of the Ilorin Emirate.
The appointment was announced following a rigorous selection process in which Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki emerged successful among several respected Islamic scholars who contested for the revered spiritual position.
According to a statement signed by the Personal Assistant to the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Abdulraheem Muritala, the Emir prayed for the successful reign of the new Chief Imam and wished him long life, sound health, and divine wisdom in the discharge of his religious responsibilities.
The Emir declared: “Amin. Long live the Ilorin Emirate. Shehu, Shehu, Shehu, wallahu yazimuka mina nas, amin.”
Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki, 42, is a grandson of the 8th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, and son of the blood brother of the 10th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka.
Before his appointment, the Islamic scholar was the founder and proprietor of Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies located at Airport Egbejila, Ilorin. He also served as the Imam leading daily and weekly Jumu’ah prayers at Afsat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque, Oko Olowo, Ilorin.
In addition, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki is known for presenting the Al-Bisharah Islamic Foundation programme on Radio Kwara during Ramadan and teaching at Darul Kitab College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin.
On his educational background, the newly appointed Chief Imam holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Islamic Shari’ah from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt, obtained in 2014. He also earned a Diploma in Arabic Islamic Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, while his Master’s degree in Islamic Studies at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, is currently in view.
He attended Darul Kitab wa Sunnah, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin, for his secondary education and Oke Suna LGEA Primary School, Ilorin, for his primary education.
The appointment has been described as a significant development within the Ilorin Emirate’s Islamic leadership structure.
