Kwankwaso Reportedly Threaten To Dump NDC Amidst Coalition Crisis

Former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is reportedly considering leaving the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) amid growing tension within the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Recent reports indicate that Kwankwaso’s absence from key NDC meetings has fueled speculation about an imminent exit from the party. The development is said to have created anxiety within the coalition, especially among supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

The crisis reportedly stems from disagreements over party structure, internal power sharing, and unresolved leadership issues inherited from the coalition’s earlier alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Although Kwankwaso has not officially announced his resignation from the NDC, he recently confirmed that he is holding consultations with leaders of the NDC, the PRP, and other political stakeholders regarding his future political direction. He stated that no final decision has been taken yet.

Political observers believe any move by Kwankwaso to leave the NDC could significantly affect opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly in northern Nigeria where his Kwankwasiyya movement maintains strong grassroots influence.
