The Government of Ireland has invited qualified Nigerians and other eligible African nationals to apply for its fully funded 2026/2027 Ireland Fellows Programme, offering successful candidates the opportunity to pursue a one-year master’s degree at leading Irish higher education institutions.
The prestigious scholarship programme is designed to develop future leaders who will contribute to sustainable development in their home countries while strengthening bilateral ties between Ireland and participating nations.
According to the programme guidelines, successful applicants will begin their studies between August and September 2026 at approved universities across Ireland.
The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support, covering full tuition fees, return economy airfare, visa application fees, accommodation, medical and travel insurance, a monthly living allowance, settling-in and completion allowances, as well as the Irish residence permit fee.
Eligible fields of study include agriculture, health, education, engineering, computer science, business, human rights, environmental studies, and several other disciplines offered by participating institutions.
To qualify, applicants must be citizens and residents of eligible African countries, including Nigeria, possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution, have at least two to three years of relevant work experience, demonstrate leadership potential, and show commitment to national development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Applicants must also not already hold or be pursuing a master’s degree.
Mode of Application
Interested applicants are required to visit the official Ireland Fellows Programme application portal, carefully review the eligibility requirements and country-specific guidance, and complete the online preliminary application form before the deadline. Applicants are expected to select up to three eligible master’s programmes that align with their academic qualifications and professional experience, while uploading all required supporting documents, including academic certificates, transcripts, curriculum vitae (CV), and other requested credentials.
Candidates who successfully pass the preliminary stage will be invited to submit a detailed application and may subsequently be shortlisted for interviews and English language proficiency assessments where applicable.
The deadline for submitting preliminary applications is July 25, 2026.
