The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a major boost to the nation’s electricity infrastructure with the addition of 5,910 megavolt-amperes (MVA) transformer capacity to the national grid.

According to the company, the development is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen power transmission across the country and improve electricity supply to Nigerians. The projects are being financed through partnerships with international agencies including the World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB), and Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
TCN disclosed that several transmission projects have already been completed, while others are nearing completion in different parts of the country. The company added that procurement processes for Japan-supported transmission projects in Lagos and Ogun states are also at advanced stages.
The additional transformer capacity is expected to enhance grid stability, reduce transmission constraints, and support improved power distribution nationwide.
The latest development comes amid renewed calls for reforms and increased investment in Nigeria’s power sector to address persistent electricity challenges.
