The Academic Staff Union of Universities,ASUU, has threatened to embark on another nationwide strike over what it described as the Federal Government’s failure to fully implement the 2025 FG-ASUU agreement signed after years of negotiations.
At the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at Modibbo Adama University, ASUU accused the Federal Government and some state governments of selectively implementing parts of the agreement while ignoring critical welfare and funding provisions.

ASUU President, Christopher Piwuna, said lecturers were becoming increasingly frustrated over unresolved issues including withheld salaries from the 2022 strike period, promotion arrears, salary shortfalls linked to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), unpaid allowances, and delayed pension payments.
The union also faulted the government for allegedly failing to inaugurate the Implementation Monitoring Committee meant to oversee the execution of the agreement. According to ASUU, some university administrators are “picking and choosing” which components of the agreement to implement.
ASUU warned that continued neglect of lecturers’ welfare and delays in implementing agreed reforms could trigger “a new wave of industrial unrest” across Nigerian universities if urgent action is not taken.
The union further urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to personally intervene to prevent another disruption in the nation’s public university system.
