FG Launches Free Wi-Fi for Schools, Hospitals Nationwide

The Federal Government has announced plans to provide free internet access to public schools and hospitals across the country, in a move aimed at improving digital learning, healthcare delivery and access to information.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader digital inclusion and connectivity drive, designed to bridge the digital divide and ensure that critical public institutions are not left behind in the country’s technology advancement.

According to officials, the free Wi-Fi service will support students, teachers, healthcare workers and patients by enabling access to online educational resources, digital health records, telemedicine services and real-time information sharing. The programme is also expected to enhance research, training and data management in schools and medical facilities.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that reliable internet access will improve teaching methods and learning outcomes, especially in underserved communities. Similarly, health experts say the initiative could strengthen service delivery by supporting modern healthcare solutions and faster communication among professionals.

The Federal Government said the rollout would be implemented in phases, with priority given to public institutions, while measures are being put in place to ensure sustainability, security and efficient usage of the service.

The programme aligns with ongoing efforts to modernise public infrastructure and position Nigeria for growth in the digital economy.
