NYSC Gives HND Graduates Condition To Partake in 1-year Mandatory Service

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned that graduates of polytechnics and monotechnics without evidence of mandatory one-year Industrial Training (IT) will not participate in national service.

The NYSC Coordinator in Lagos State, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.

Baderinwa said that NYSC had issued a circular to that effect.

Baderinwa said, “It has been noticed in recent times that some graduates of polytechnics and mlnotechnics do not observe the mandatory one-year IT before being admitted for HND programme.

“The one-year IT is a prerequisite for HND.

“They must undergo the one-year IT with evidence of completion before going for HND, and institutions must confirm this before admitting them for HND.

“The directive will take effect from next orientation camp, and we will not register any candidate who did not complete or undergo the process.”

She said that the measure would promote the sanctity of Nigeria’s education system.

According to the coordinator, prospective corps members who are HND graduates will be required to present evidence of completion of the IT before being registered at any NYSC orientation camp. (NAN)

EndBadGovernance: TELECOS Gives Reasons Behind Internet Disruption

Following reactions by internet users over poor network in the country, the Nigerian telecom providers have attributed the country’s recent internet disruptions to cable cuts by hoodlums during the #EndBadGovernance protests.

This explanation comes after accusations from various organisations that some network providers deliberately interfered with the network to restrict coverage of the demonstrations.

Speaking on behalf of telecom operators in Nigeria, Gbolahan Awonuga, the executive secretary of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), told Leadership that the network outage was caused by demonstrators damaging some internet cables.

He stated, “There are a lot of cable cuts across Nigeria. Some of the protesters went into the manhole and cut the cables.

“The network disruption is not a matter of the government trying to sabotage the protest. It is as a result of the cable cut.”

Awonuga mentioned that arrangements are being made with the National Security Adviser to the President (NSA) to give operators clearance to repair the damages.

He also appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience, as efforts are underway to restore the network soon.

  • Protest: Police Officer Murdered, Other Officers Injured – IGP

The inspector-general of police (IGP),Kayode Egbetokun says a police officer was murdered on Thursday during the #EndBadGovernance nationwide protests.

Speaking in Abuja at a briefing, Egbetokun said some police officers were also injured while some stations were razed by hoodlums who disguised as protesters.

“In light of the current situation, the Nigeria Police Force has placed all units on red alert. Our officers are fully mobilised and prepared to respond swiftly and decisively to public safety and order,” the IGP said.

“Police stations have been destroyed. There have been attempts to take over government houses,” Egbetokun said, adding that looting of public and private warehouses and facilities was widespread.

“In places like FCT, Kaduna, Kano and Gombe, among others, we recorded incidents of unprovoked attacks on our security personnel where one policeman has been reported murdered and others seriously injured.

“In light of the current situation, the Nigeria Police Force has placed all units on red alert. Our officers are fully mobilised and prepared to respond swiftly and decisively to public safety and order,” the IGP said.

Understanding your rights is important, but it is equally crucial to fulfill your duties and responsibilities.

“The red bands we are wearing signify that our command is on high alert. Those claiming they were not served court orders must understand that serving faceless individuals is challenging. Their threats were made on social media, and they were served through the same platform.” He noted.

Egbetokun expressed his sorrow over the loss of four lives in Borno due to an IED explosion. He also noted the police’s successful prevention of a similar incident in Lagos.
