Immediate Former Governor of Anambra, Willie Obiano has been arrested on suspicion of fraud at the Lagos airport.
The former governor has been under the watch list of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for a while.
The development came hours after Mr Obiano concluded his two terms of eight years as Anambra governor.
An official familiar with the matter said Mr Obiano was travelling to the United States when he was picked up for questioning. It was not immediately clear where he was driven to.
A spokesman for Mr Obiano, Don Adinuba, told Peoples Gazette he could not immediately comment on the development.
“I am trying to obtain all the facts before commenting,” he said by telephone.
Mr Obiano had been placed on a security watch list by the anti-graft office since 2021, amidst allegations of public funds mismanagement.
Obiano strongly denied the charges at the time, saying they were politically motivated because he had been diligent with allocation of state resources.
