VC Selection: FG Announces Suspension of UI Governing Council Meetings

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Education has announced the indefinite suspension of all meetings of the Governing Council of the University of Ibadan.

This was contained in a letter signed on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Education Ministry, Mr. Sonny Echono and sent to the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, NUC.

Recall that the selection process of substantive Vice-Chancellor of the premier varsity was suspended last year following allegations of malpractices that marred the process in October last year.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Babatunde Ekanola was subsequently elected in acting capacity for the next six months.

Meanwhile, it now remains unsure if the tenure of the acting VC would be extended after it expires in two months time, April.
